Smart Gain App Reviews

14 Customer Reviews:

Great software for boosting the volume level of music. I had tried iTunes built in "Sound-Check" but found it problematic, it really didnt get at the heart of the issue. The only complaint, and it is really minor, really is that it doesnt have an option of boosting the bass a little for these tracks. It appears music from 98 to today is mostly highly compressed with tons of bass, a little bit jarring going from Erasure to LaRoux and finding theres a huge difference still with the bass. Audiophiles will tell you thought that the reason behind this is because everyone is listening to their stuff on poor quality equipment these days with very weak amplifiers and poor bass response. But I do digress, this is an affordable solution to your volume differences in your iTunes library.

I have tried to get this app to work on my 2011 iMac i7 for an entire afternoon to no avail. I first tried to drag and drop a folder of files into the app but it doesn’t recognize folders. So you have to manually drag the actual files into the app. If your files are sorted by artis and album, any library over a few dozen albums would be incredibly tedious to process. The help files say you can drag and drop playlists, but i was never able to get the app to work with a playlist over a few songs. It would recognize the first few songs, then claim that the rest of the songs were 0 mb in size, and not even try to process them. Even when I drag and drop the actual files from a single album into the window, click on auto detect and wait for it to finish, then click on apply changes as the help file states, the app hangs and requires a force quit on 4 seperate attempts. I would give a zero if possible.

Really easy to use, just drag and drop, click auto-detect, apply changes, and boom -- file sounds perfect. Note: overwrites the mp3 file when you apply changes.

I missed the review that stated it doesnt do batches or I would not have purchased it. With several thousand files to normalize, Smart Gain seems not so smart. When it learns to handle batches, folders and subfolders it might turn into a handy piece of software.

I mean it it is super fast and it actually NORMALIZE your songs so that all play at the same level. The builtin itunes normalizer in itunes, ipod, ipads and iphone is utter crap it does not get the job done. Ive tried MP3 gain it helps a bit but mostly screw up your music. This app is totally worth it. The only con is it fails to do great amounts at once. Probably need a super copm for that. Only load 40 songs at once.. you can try more but I advise batch it by albums or playlist and try to stay under 50 songs at once. Its a bit repetitive when your trying to do your entire library of thousands of songs but I havent found a single program that can copmpete with the speed and QUALITY of this one.

Been using this app for a few months now…normalization is near perfect. Tip, use in conjunction with BitPerfect for clean crisp audio output via iTunes.

I loaded a playlist, as indicated in the directions, hit the auto detect, the dial spins, I hit apply changes, and all the songs in my playlist are exactly the same as the way they were when I started. ???? The only thing that works is if you have a single file, and a small section you want to adjust, then you can adjust that. But if you are trying to normalize a library of songs so you dont have to adjust the volume of each song, doesnt appear to be useful.

Meh

I was dissapointed with this app for several reasons. 1) The description is a little decieving. While you CAN adjust many audio tracks at once, you can only do so by using their "auto-detect" function-which was faulty. 2) The in-line player is poor. No support for playback using spacebar and the play button is this tiny little button, which furthered my frustration with the fact that I had to manually adjust each track. In the end, I got the app to do what I wanted, but I had to do it manually. The app is cheap, because it is cheap.

I purchased this app because of my recorded lecture files which were really important to me. The problem was that the voice of professor was too quite (I could not catch all sentences) even with max of my speaker volume because I was sitting on behind of my class when it was recording. I just dragged my file into program and click auto detect several times until the +dB does not change. Then I could listen my lecture clearly enough :)

Does what its supposed to but there is very little feedback or documentation on what and how to do it. A batch feature where it levels all the songs automatically would be awesome, but you wont find that here.

Half Working

It INCREASES the gain of songs too low-but does not DECREASE the gain of songs too loud
